Welcome to the

Old Coal Forge

Professional Artisan and Craftsman.

Hi,

I’m Brian LeGrand of the Old Coal Forge!

I am pleased to let you know a little about me…

I reside in Southeastern Pennsylvania, have 45 years plus of work experience. I was an ABANA Board Member a few years ago, I supported the ABANA member personally and lead three committees, Executive, Affiliate, and Co-Lead the Education Committee. My experience includes Welding, Blacksmithing, Farming, Carpentry, Fabrication and Machining, Electronics, Electricity, Computer Programing/Repairs, Mineralogy, and Maintenance Mechanics. I was given the nickname of “Sponge” since I enjoy learning and I enjoy teaching anyone willing to learn. Promoting the future of Welding and Blacksmithing for the next generations in any way I possibly can is very important! Also, I believe I can learn from the future generations as well.

Starting out, I went through a 4 Year Apprenticeship. I learned from my uncle who was a Machinist/Welder/Mechanic, named after President Woodrow Wilson. He commanded respect, effort, and a search for Common Sense. I also found a well-known Blacksmith in my area, Willie Enfield, who frequented the Welding and Machine Shop where I worked. Some of my fondest memories are of the stories being swapped back and forth by them. Willie gave me pointers and taught me a lot about Blacksmithing and some Whitesmithing as well. But in turn I made my share of nails for the simple fact of repetition of product.

My belief is not to allow anyone to discourage you, or limit you for any reason, and anyone should be able to pursue their goals to the utmost. Never be afraid to stop and assist someone for they might not always be fully able to ask for it!

Review Working Conditions

In our line of work, we need to talk to our customer. We need to learn what the customer is looking for. Often we need to come out to the actual physical location where you would like the work completed. This way we can get a better understanding of what will be required to accomplish the prospective job. When everyone is in agreement, we can begin the quotation process and present a price for your custom iron or jewelry work.
